Mauricio Linares-Aguilar was born in Ahuachapán, El Salvador in 1966. The artist works in a variety of media, often locally sourced, seeking concrete relationships of color, form, and light that paradoxically suggest the infinite possibilities inherent in our lives. He produces paintings, drawings, printmaking works, photographs, and installations. Linares-Aguilar has participated in several group exhibitions around the world, and he also has exhibited his work individually eighteen times. He received his Bachelor of Arts at the Applied School of Arts, Jose Matias Delgado University, El Salvador. Then, the Master of Fine Arts, MFA at the Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences of the University of Arkansas, USA. He also holds a master degree in Jewelry History and Design  from Siena University, Italy. Most recently, he received his Ph.D. from the Fine Arts Department of Complutense of Madrid University, Spain, with his research and thesis focused in water and titled Social Imagination and Water Visual Depiction in Mesoamerica. Linares-Aguilar is a Fulbright Alumni, AECID Ibero-American Creators Residence Program Fellow and FANTEL Talent Fellow. Linares Aguilar is also a Fine Arts Appraisal afiliated to the Salvadoran  Chamber of Valuation, CSV.

El artista trabaja en una variedad de medios, a menudo de origen local, en busca de relaciones concretas de color, la forma y la luz que paradójicamente sugieren las infinitas posibilidades inherentes en nuestras vidas. Produce pinturas, dibujos, grabados, fotografías e instalaciones. Linares-Aguilar ha mostrado su obra en muchas exhibiciones alrededor del mundo. También, él ha exhibido individualmente su trabajo en dieciocho ocasiones. Linares-Aguilar obtuvo el grado de licenciatura en la Escuela de Artes Aplicadas de la Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado, El Salvador. La Maestría en Bellas Artes, MFA del Colegio Fulbright de Ciencias y Artes de la Universidad de Arkansas, Estados Unidos de América. El artista ha obtenido la maestría en Historia y Diseño de la Joyería de la Universidad de Siena, Italia y el doctorado en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid con su tesis La imaginación social y la representación visual del agua en Mesoamérica. Linares-Aguilar es ex-becario Fulbright, creador residente del programa para Iberoamérica de la AECID, ex-becario del programa talento FANTEL. Linares Aguilar es perito valuador en obras de arte afiliado a la Cámara Salvadoreña de la Valuación, CSV.

    The Florence Biennale is an independent, self financed ‘platform’ for artists from around the world. Since twenty years this biennial has been a showcase of excellence in the contemporary art scene. During each edition, all the artists participating in the Florence Biennale compete for the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award. The awards are conferred by an International Jury composed by outstanding personalities in the world of art and culture.

    The XIth Florence Biennale will engage participating artists and visitors in a rich programme of artistic and cultural activities. Aside from the main exhibition, there will be collateral events, workshops, conferences and lectures relating to the theme, eARTh: Creativity & Sustainability.
